I am so overcome with pain and grief! Lord where are you?

I am so overcome with pain and grief. My life doesn’t seem worth living anymore. I feel that God if He exists, has abandoned me. I can’t control my addictive behaviors, they are controlling me. God, if you are there, please help me!

I can remember feeling that way not to long ago. My life was in complete chaos, my health was failing, my soul was in such a dark place that I couldn’t see any light. Death seemed like the only option.

Have any of you ever felt like that? You are not alone. Many believers struggle with all kinds of problems that overwhelm them. It could be anything from drugs and alcohol to divorce to loss of job, etc.

This is written to give you hope in your suffering. God will never abandon you, you may not see it today, but He will use this for good.

Hope and Suffering

JESUS IN THE DARKNESS

In our lives we will certainly find trials that seem unfair, unbearable and even what appears to be Godless.

All we have to do is look at God’s Word to see that even God’s most precious prophets and disciples were not without grief, suffering and even death.

“If my misery could be weighed and my troubles be put on the scales, Don’t people complain about unsalted food? Does anyone want the tasteless white of an egg? But I don’t have the strength to endure. I have nothing to live for. Do I have the strength of a stone? Is my body made of bronze? No, I am utterly helpless, without any chance of success.’ Job.6.2,6,11-13 NLT

But, do not despair, God is with you always.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’ Psalm 46:1-11

romsns‘I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter. Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge. Human beings are all like a puff of breath; great and small alike are worthless. Put them on the scales, and they weigh nothing; they are lighter than a mere breath. Don’t put your trust in violence; don’t hope to gain anything by robbery; even if your riches increase, don’t depend on them. More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him and that his love is constant. You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to their deeds.’  Psalms 62:5-12 GNT

When we are struggling with any kind of hurt, hang-up or habit in life all we have to do is turn to God’s Word.

Life may seem totally out of control. Maybe it is! Maybe that is the problem. We are trying to control life! How quickly we forget who our boss is. Jesus taught His disciples in parables, then had to explain them to them, so they would have a complete understanding of what He was trying to teach.

let-goHow often do we try to control things that we have no control over? I know that is a constant struggle for me in my life. Although in my morning prayers I always ask God to help me “TODAY” to surrender everything to Him. Then later in the day I will find myself trying to control something, like my health. Now, you may say that I can control my health by doing what my Doctors say, eating healthy, exercising, etc. However, I have no control over how my body reacts to any of that. God is in control, not me! I do what I can and have faith the He is handling the rest. And He will!

‘I am the Lord your God; I strengthen you and tell you, ‘Do not be afraid; I will help you.’” Isaiah 41:13

‘We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.’ Proverbs 16:9

‘I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord , the Maker of heaven and earth. ‘ Psalm 121:1-2

‘Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord ’s purpose that prevails. ‘ Proverbs 19:21

‘Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. ‘ Romans 12:9,16

‘He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; Psalm 121:3

This verse will make more sense when you are in a place where you can see God’s will in your life.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. Philippians 4:11

When you are spiraling out of control, don’t try to handle your struggle alone! We were not meant to be alone in our struggles. God has said in His Word that we should be a help to each other. friends

‘Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. ‘ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

‘Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. ‘ Ecclesiastes 4:12
